How is Mexican jewellery made?
The creation of Mexican silver jewellery
Mexico has been a rich vein of silver for centuries, but regained its spark in the 1920's. Since this time the skills and quality of jewellery production has evolved to include a myriad of different styles and influences. This has helped to create truly individual and breathtaking pieces. Despite the absorption of creative techniques and designs over the years, the jewellery is unmistakably Mexican. Elaborate twists and folds create astounding shapes.
Rediscovering the art of wax casting, many jewellery makers in Mexico have been able produce finely detailed and exquisite silver pieces. A wax model of a piece is designed with all details and intricacies carved into the wax. The piece is then enclosed into a plaster mold ensuring that channels, or sprues, lead out of the mold. A main channel is also made to pour the silver into.
The molten silver is then poured into the mold, the wax melts away, and the silver fills the space left by the wax model. The mould is opened, the strands of sprue are cut away, and you have a perfect replica of the original sculpted piece. Think about those Airfix model kits and how the pieces are in plastic frames; it's pretty much the same principle.
Israeli Jewellery - Why is it Special?
There's more to Isreali jewellery than meets the eye!
You've probably noticed the stunning pieces of Israeli jewellery here on our online store. They are certainly stunning, with very intricate designs and beautiful use of precious stones. So where do these designs and styles come from? To understand more, we need to take a step back into Israel's jewellery making past.
Israel has quite a history of jewellery making. Two beads, currently housed at the Natural History Museum, have been proved to be the oldest components of jewellery in the world. Found at Skhul, these beads have been dated as being around 100,000 years old. That's quite some lineage!
Israel has incorporated many different cultures in its history, and this is always in flux. Over the years, people have come from almost all corners of the globe; Jewish, Islamic and Christian traditions have become intertwined into Israeli culture.
One of the side effects of this is a merging of influences, which affect art, literature, music, food and fashion. Israeli jewellery manufacturers have also incorporated these influences over hundreds of years. When in the hands, literally, of these skilled Israeli jewellery makers, pieces of exquisite and unique beauty are created, and no two pieces are exactly the same.

Matching jewellery to your face shape
Choosing the right jewellery for you- part 1
Have you sometimes found yourself wondering whether a piece of jewellery matches your skin tone, or whether those earrings really suit the shape of your face?
Often, choosing jewellery isn’t as simple as it would appear. Merely finding something pretty may not be enough- it would be a better idea to take those other factors into consideration.
So this week, we’re tackling face shape.
Square
For the square face, longer necklaces are better for adding length, but need to be soft and delicate. Also, use gentle, elongated earrings to help with length.
Rectangular
Shorter necklaces for adding width work well for rectangular faces, but need to be soft. A thin choker can work very well. Short earrings should be worn to avoid elongating the face further.
Round
Those with a round face need to add length by using more dainty jewellery rather than large jewellery to avoid adding thickness to the face and neck. Use elongated or angular shapes in earrings or teardrop earrings.
Triangle
For triangular faces, it is best to avoid necklaces that end in a point. Long necklaces can be worn as long as they counteract the sharp angles of the face, such as a string of pearls. Delicate chokers work well, teamed with longer earrings to help lengthen face.
Heart-Shaped
The heart shape is softer than the triangle, and therefore can wear chokers and thicker necklaces. Longer earrings should be worn to help lengthen face, but earring which are wider at the top than the bottom are the perfect choice.
Both Diamond and Oval
These face shapes are very lucky, and can generally get away with wearing any kind of jewellery!
Choosing the best jewellery for your face shape can be tricky and confusing, but hopefully this will be able to help you with your choices! Generally, it’s all about counteracting certain aspects of the shape of your face, whilst of course feeling comfortable with your choice of jewellery.
Calvin Klein watches- how to look after them
Guide on looking after your Calvin Klein watch
In order to make the most out of your Calvin Klein watch, here are a list of tip and tricks to keep it looking fab as well as prolonging its life.
1- Avoid extremes of temperature. Extreme heat can shorten the battery life of a Calvin Klein watch and extreme cold can cause it to gain or lose time. Also, direct sunlight can prematurely age dials.
2- Avoid large fluctuations in temperature. If you go to a sauna and then plunge into an icy pool for example, this might result in condensation forming on the inside of the watch. Although this may disappear within time, you may still be left with a stain under the crystal.
3- Avoid extreme shocks and vibrations. This may affect timekeeping and even cause mechanical failure.
4- Avoid lengthy periods in strong magnetic fields, as the watch contains a great deal of delicate metal components. Try not to get too close to stereo speaker or computer monitors, as this may result in the watch behaving erratically.
5- When about to shower, remove even the hardiest water-resistant watches first, because soap reduces the surface tension of water and allows it to attack the seals very effectively.
6- After swimming in the sea or in water containing chlorine or salt, rinse the watch under clean fresh water, to avoid damage to the seals and insides of the Calvin Klein watch.
7- Clean your Calvin Klein watch externally on a regular basis. Use a very small amount of soap on a damp cloth, gently remove any dust and dirt lingering on the watch. Ensure that you clean all over the watch, including between the bracelet links and suchlike. The dirt can often act like sandpaper, causing premature wear. Dry with a soft cloth.
8- Have your watch checked professionally every year, as any small problems can then be sorted instead of waiting for the problem to manifest itself. This is much like getting your car serviced to make sure minor problems don’t result in catastrophes later on.
Follow these tips, and you can be sure to enjoy a longer, happier life with your chosen Calvin Klein watch. Click to view our great range of Calvin Klein watches here.
